Day 1: Travel to Lake Naivasha
You will visit Lake Naivasha today as part of your classic Kenya safari. Lake Naivasha is a big freshwater lake in Kenya that is part of the Great Rift Valley. A lot of different birds live there, including the famous African Fish Eagle and a lot of African Hippos. Enjoy high tea at Joy Adamson’s famous Elsamere farm in the afternoon.
Adamson had a book called “Born Free” that was about taking care of a lion cub. Her house is now a conservation center that focuses on lake ecology and raising knowledge about the environment. After that, you can take a boat ride on Lake Naivasha and look for animals on the shore.
Day 2: Pink Flamingos at Lake Nakuru
Today, your safari guide will lead you on a day trip to the stunning Lake Nakuru National Park, renowned for its thousands of vibrant flamingoes and plentiful rhinos. Following a hearty breakfast, you embark on a drive through the Great Rift Valley, heading towards Lake Nakuru, which is about a two-hour journey.
Lake Nakuru stands out as one of Kenya’s smallest National Parks, yet it may be the most stunning. The area is rich in diverse wildlife, featuring thousands of lesser and greater flamingoes, along with significant populations of rhinos. Observe the rare Rothschild Giraffe alongside a variety of other mammals, including zebra, impala, waterbuck, lion, and buffalo. Pause in a cool area for a delightful picnic lunch. Afterwards, you will return to your Kenya safari accommodation for afternoon tea, enjoying delightful cakes on the lawn with a view of Lake Naivasha.
Day 3: Depart for the Mara
After breakfast today, you will take a flight from Lake Naivasha to the Masai Mara, renowned for its expansive plains. The flight is brief, offering glimpses of the lush terrain of the Masai Mara. Upon your arrival at the airstrip, you will be greeted and guided to your tented accommodation in the Masai Mara, which is nestled in the forest along the banks of the Mara River.
In the afternoon, you will set off on a game drive, where you can expect to encounter lion, elephant, giraffe, and zebra. Drinks before dinner by the crackling campfire create the perfect atmosphere for a candlelit meal, followed by a restful night in your tented accommodation.
Day 4 – 5: Safari in Masai Mara
Enjoy the next two days in the Masai Mara. Embark on a safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve, enjoying both morning and afternoon game drives. Traverse the expansive plains and witness herds of grazers alongside prides of lions, or perhaps catch a glimpse of a leopard resting in a tree. In the afternoon, experience a meeting with Kenya’s renowned Maasai herders as you visit a local homestead. Their existence centers on their livestock, and they are perpetually in motion, seeking out new pastures.
An optional extra is the opportunity to go hot air ballooning. Hanging in a basket under the vibrant canopy, you embark on a wildlife viewing adventure in the Masai Mara, experiencing it from a unique vantage point. Relish the tranquility as you glide over the vast plains, the lush forests, and the winding rivers of the Masai Mara. Celebrate your return to earth with a delightful champagne breakfast.
Day 6: Farewell
On the last day of your classic Kenya safari, you will rise early and embark on one final game drive. Experience the dawn illuminating the bush veldt while exploring the wildlife activities from the previous night. Track spoor, follow bush trails, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the remnants of a midnight kill.
Departing from the renowned plains, you will return to the capital, Nairobi. Post accommodation is available if you are continuing on to Tanzania, Mombasa, or Zanzibar and should be booked before departure.
