No Masai Mara safari is complete without meeting the people who live there. It’s an amazing way to learn about their culture. Ending the day in the African bush with a late afternoon bush boat and drinks while watching the sun go down is the best way to spend an evening there.
At Richards River Camp, you can eat like people do in the bush. Every night, you will all sit down at the lighted table outside under the open African sky. Take it easy and enjoy the feast that the top cooks in the area have made.
Place to stay
Get away to the middle of the Masai Mara to stay in a private tented Masai Mara safari lodge with high-end furnishings and services.
It was important to have privacy and seclusion when your African home away from home was planned. The forest is right outside of Richards River Camp, which has only seven tents for guests to stay in.
Perfect for travelers on their own or small groups who want to explore the Masai Mara. Your nicely fitted tent has personal touches like fabrics that one of the owners picked up while traveling that were chosen by hand.
The place
Richards River Camp is tucked away in Masai Mara, Kenya, so you can have a private tour that is full of wildlife.
Tanzania’s Serengeti is right next to Masai Mara, and both parks have a lot of different scenery and animals. You will be able to see big game every day in the Masai Mara’s beautiful riverine forests and short grass fields.
The weather
It will rain in January and February, which makes the short, green grassy fields and carpets of beautiful wildflowers grow. During this time, cows give birth.
During June and July, the weather is dry, and animals can be seen in the waterways. A lion, a leopard, or a cheetah can give birth in the wild on green grassy fields. For the next three months, the Great Migration will also pass through the Masai Mara.
You can follow the Great Migration in August and September. See millions of wildebeest and thousands of zebra cross the beautiful river while being chased by animals that want to eat them.
It is in October, November, and December that the wildebeest move back to the Serengeti. When it rains every so often, the golden grass plains that grew in the dry months will turn green again.
Things to do
The Masai Mara is in the southwest of Kenya. On your tour in Kenya, you will see a lot of wildlife and learn about the culture.
Flights in hot air balloons
A hot air balloon tour over beautiful scenery is best early in the morning. You can fly over a lot of wild animals that are free to roam and beautiful scenery. For an extra fee, hot air balloon trips are available.
Game Drives
The best way to see the bush is on an exciting game drive with a knowledgeable game guide. Every day, game drives happen twice, once in the morning and once in the evening. Each morning, you can have your coffee or tea and look out at the wildlife from afar. Track animals that come out at night and watch how they get into trouble.
Walks in the bush
On a bush walking tour, you can see, hear, smell, and taste what the bush has to offer. Find out everything you can about the smaller animals you don’t see on game drives. You will be able to track animals better with an armed game guard.
Dining at Bush
Enjoy the tastes of Africa in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The team of skilled chefs works hard to please all tastes, even the pickiest ones. Dinner is served outside at a table with candles, under the African sky full of stars.
